biography

A ramble through the paradoxes of space, my peripatetic practice over these past three decades—collectively titled Between Shadow and Memory—hovers over personal and cultural history, nature, pleasure, remembering and forgetting. Addressing visual language I use landscape and the pleasure garden as models of space, created and curated as imagining.

Manipulating images and patterns to effect and imagine pictorial space, the work is made up of sideways glimpsing and glancing as mix’n’match accumulations which paradoxically communicate a comprehensive glance; a poetic visual totalizing of experience.

The pleasure of making—of materials and processes—is at the heart of all my work and pleasure in this sense is a subversive act, since what is done for the pleasure of the doing might be subversive simply because it has no other necessary use-value.

My studio is a garden where I am the gardener.
