and in the Ponds broken off from the sky 2008 -11

A series of discontinuous panoramic paintings without fixed horizon, where fragmented images float and settle back and forth through complex layers. The vocabulary of forms merge Persian and French formal gardens, with textile and ceramic patterns and figures at leisure, together with text from poetry, prose and names as a way of provoking connective layers of meaning. The title is taken from the poem Fortschritt by Rainer Maria Rilke and I chose it for its beautiful evocative idea of letting go; of the joy in subverting up with down, this with that; the pleasure and joy that comes with immersive, rhapsodic experience.
